A Place For Architects to Collaborate!

We have had a big wave of layoffs in the Memphis area. Is it the same in other areas of the country?
I know in the south along the coast, they are still building. Just seeing if it is the same everywhere else.

Hi Enn:
I live in California and have been unemployed for more than 9 months. Every time I look for jobs, I realize people is being laid off every day, making the competence even harder. Good luck in everything!

I was laid off back in June here in California. Here it has been dead, some openings here and there in the healthcare areas, but not much else.

Pretty much the same here in New England. I'm going on a year and a half without a architectural position. Luckly my brother hired me for the summer to harvest weeds out of lakes and ponds an gave me a place to live. That lasted until two weeks ago now I'm on unemployment.
This time ishis at least giving me some time to become LEED certified just finished a course for Green Associate am studying for that exam before I take the LEED AP+ course and exam later this month.
In the mean time I keep looking on the job sites for work. As someone on this website said it's a pain as all the computer geeks call themselves architects. So you have to wade through 50 job postings to find maybe one for a real architect position.i
I've had to drop my AIA membership as I can't afford it and they haven't been a big help during this recession.
